Import a car from Germany to Belgium

1. Search beyond the advertised price

Compare specification, mileage, maintenance, warranty, VAT treatment, CO₂ data and location. Set a total budget including purchase, inspection, transport, formalities, taxes and guidance.

• Identify the seller and vehicle clearly.
• Request the documents before payment.
• Define must-have equipment and acceptable alternatives.

2. Inspect the car and documents

An independent inspection can verify condition, fault codes, damage indicators, maintenance and the chassis number. The contract should clearly identify both parties, VIN, mileage, price, VAT treatment and supplied documents.

3. Arrange payment and transport

Only pay a verified account belonging to the contractual seller. Agree in writing when ownership and risk transfer. Keep the invoice, German registration papers, available certificate of conformity and transport evidence together.

4. E705, inspection, insurance and DIV

E705 is the electronic customs signal used by the DIV to verify that the vehicle is lawfully in Belgium. For an EU purchase, FPS Finance requests documents including the invoice or sales contract, latest registration certificate and identification.

Depending on the file, preregistration, the required technical inspection, insurance and the DIV registration application follow. Taxes are assessed by the competent region.
