Check a German car before buying

A polished listing is not an inspection. Combine identity, document and technical checks before contract and payment.

Verify the seller first

Trading name, address, bank account and contractual seller should match. Be cautious when names differ or payment is rushed. Check the full VIN across the vehicle and documents.

Make the documents tell one story

Maintenance history, reports, registration papers, invoices and conformity documents should form a logical timeline. Check mileage, owner changes, damage and missing intervals.

Independent inspection

A thorough inspection covers body, paint, tyres, brakes, underside, engine bay, fault memory and a road test. For EVs and plug-in hybrids, include charging equipment and available battery information.

  • Record photos and measurements
  • Translate defects into cost
  • Set rejection criteria in advance
  • Decide only after reviewing report and documents together

Decide without a sales conflict

A defect need not always stop the purchase; weigh severity, repair cost, warranty, price and uncertainty. GermanYoungCars guides the assessment independently of the German seller and does not sell the car.
